Fostering Hope

Fostering Hope

On some Sundays, we give space for families to share what God is doing in their lives and encourage our church family. Last Sunday, one of these families shared about their rewarding journey of being called into foster care, despite many sacrifices and the difficulty of having to say goodbye to children they get attached to. Read their testimony below:

“At the beginning of 2021, we got news that we would probably not be able to start a family by traditional means. It was overwhelming, as we were so ready to become parents and didn’t really know what our options were at the time. We took to the internet and came across several adoption and foster agencies in the area. We wanted to find out all we could and attended several different information sessions before choosing an agency that we felt we really connected with. At this point, we were only considering adoption, thinking that we were not the kind of people who would be able to be foster parents. We thought we would get too attached and it would hurt too much when kids left. After getting further into training and hearing about other’s experience, it became evident that there is no kind of person who is able to foster without pain or grief or becoming too attached to their kids. We felt a shift in our hearts and knew we were being led down this path.

We have felt that God has been working in our lives by just being with us in all of these highs and lows. He has blessed us so much as we get to experience the joy of loving these kids, and He has been with us in the deep sadness of saying goodbye. He has allowed us to feel compassion for families and truly root for reunification when possible. He has made us feel grateful for our infertility.
